How to Configure the Delta ME300 VFD for the Laguna Revo 1836 (115V Model)

Overview

If you ever need to know the setting to troubleshoot the Delta ME300 Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) on a Laguna Revo 1836 lathe (115V version), you are in the same boat I was. The lathe comes with an owner's manual, while the VFD does not. When you do find the manual online (also attached here), good luck deciphering the confusing parameter settings. The manual covers five different VFDs and all possible settings for various applications. A trip to YouTube gets you some help, but many of the videos are in Hindi and do not address this specific configuration. Also, being a more specialized tool/setup, there just isn't a lot of learning out there to help guide the searching or discovery of the correct setup. Why not call customer service? Oh, I did... and after waiting a week to get a technician on the phone, not a customer service representative, but the actual Laguna Certified Technician, they wouldn't have been able to help me out either, or so they said, because they did not have this documentation either, the VFD is set at the factory. Luckily, by the time they called back, I had figured it out, through hours of tinkering, having the manual for the VFD, Chat GPT, and lots and lots of patience.

This guide walks you through every critical step to fully integrate Laguna’s front panel controls with the Delta VFD.

This guide assumes you’re working with a brand-new or recently reset Delta ME300 drive and the 115V model of the Laguna Revo 1836 ( I purchased mine in 2025)

When you start using the VFD settings, one area tripped me up considerably was the first set of letters. I thought I had to be on a specific letter and enter that to get into the various

⸻

Critical Step: Remove the VFD Password Lock

You must unlock the VFD first or you won’t be able to change (any) key settings.

Steps:
1. Navigate to Pr.00-07 and enter 9999
2. Then go to Pr.00-07 again and enter 9999 a second time
3. Go to Pr.00-08 and set it to 0

⸻

Perform a Full Factory Reset

This ensures you’re starting with a clean slate.

Steps:
1. Set Pr.00-02 = 10 (this resets everything to 60 Hz defaults)
2. Wait for the VFD to display End or automatically reboot
3. Power-cycle the VFD by unplugging for 10 seconds

⸻

Enable USER Mode

This allows access to advanced parameters and proper switch mapping.

Steps:
1. Set Pr.13-00 = 1 (User-defined macro mode)
2. Power-cycle the VFD again for the setting to take effect

Once enabled, the display will show USEr when you toggle through modes.

Final Configuration Table

Use this table to manually enter each setting into the VFD:

Here's the complete list of parameters for correct operation. These make the VFD ignore the keypad and fully obey the lathe's hardware panel (including safety controls).

Param Value Purpose
00.00 103 Drive ID (read-only)
00.02 10 Factory reset (60 Hz base)
00.05 1.00 Use external DI1 for Run/Stop
00.06 1.03 Locked; don’t change (analog input)
00.07 0 Password bypass
00.08 0 Unlock parameter edits
00.21 1 Set source to external control
01.00 60.00 Max frequency (Hz)
01.01 60.00 Base frequency
01.02 230.0 Motor rated voltage
01.03 4.20 Motor rated current (from nameplate)
01.04 4 Number of motor poles
01.05 1.10 Motor rated power (kW)
03.00 1 Use analog voltage input for speed
03.03 0.00 Analog input bias
03.04 60.00 Analog input gain
04.00 1 Forward/Reverse toggle input
05.01 4.20 Rated motor current (Amps)
05.04 2 Reverse signal input: M2 (DI2)
13-00 1 Enable USER mode
02.00 3 Three-wire control: M1 = RUN, M2 = FWD/REV, M3 = STOP

Testing the System

Once the above parameters are set:
• Power ON the lathe
• Press and release the ON button to start the motor
• Adjust the speed with the control dial
• Use the Forward/Reverse toggle to change direction
• Press the OFF button or hit the Emergency Stop to stop the motor

⸻

Increasing Max RPM (Optional)

If your lathe is capping out around 1200 RPM and you want to increase it to ~3200 RPM:
1. Set Pr.01-00 = 100.00 (or higher, but keep it safe — this is the max frequency)
2. Set Pr.03-04 = 100.00 (gain for analog input)
3. Adjust your control knob and observe the F value (frequency) on the display

note: The actual RPM is a function of motor frequency, gear ratios, and pulley setup. Only increase this if you’re confident the motor and lathe mechanics can handle it.
